Alien: Isolation - Crew Essentials (c)

Description

I just wanted to share a few small builds that I've done over the last couple of months. The idea was to create the stuff that accumulates in crew overalls and lockers...

First off, my (not so) budget watch:

This is just a cheap Casio that I bought online. Exactly the same model as one I had 20 years ago! It's not remotely similar to the Alien or Alien: Isolation watches, but I figured there must be more than two models of watch in the galaxy  I took the measurements and built up a 3D model in SketchUp. Unfortunately, when the model returned from Shapeways, I realised that I was way too generous in my efforts to avoid making it too small. It ended up a good 2mm wide on each side.

The upside of this was that I had a good starting point to make a new set of measurements, and to tweak the design. Mk. 2 was a much more successful fit.

I then took a mould of the 3D print, in case I wanted to make multiple copies. I cast the watch part in polyurethane resin, then cleaned it up in preparation for primer and paint.

It took me two attempts to find a suitable spray, so this got quite expensive (as well as two prints from Shapeways)!

I also decided I'd create a Seegson MedKit. This was a quick Photoshop project to create the label. I used an empty disposable insulin pen as the MedKit. The idea being that this was a mass-produced medical supply, not the improvised medical gear used in Alien: Isolation.

Finally, it occurred to me that crew members might carry over-the-counter remedies for their equivalent of travel sickness: Hypersleep Sickness Relief!

I tried to create a soothing, safe-looking package, that could be the slightly cynical face of an interplanetary corporation. For both the MedKit and the Hypersleep Sickness Relief, I tried to include some plausible active ingredients on the labels, as well as dosage instructions etc.
